Energi alternatif merupakan solusi untuk mengatasi krisis energi akhir – akhir ini. Namun tiga siswi di Bantul Yogyakarta berhasil menemukan energi alternatif dari daun sambiloto yang banyak tumbuh di sekitar kita. Ketiga siswi ini dengan teknik tertentu, ternyata bisa membuat daun ini menghasilkan listrik dan menghidupkan lampu.


Muakiqah, Sri Astuti dan Rima Melati, adalah tiga siswi SMU 1 Bantul, Yogyakarta yang berhasil menemukan sumber energi alternatif.


Selama 4 bulan melakukan penelitian, mereka akhirnya menemukan bahwa daun sambiloto ternyata bisa mengeluarkan energi listrik. Mereka memilih daun sambiloto bukan tanpa alasan, karena saat ini masih banyak dilingkungan disekitar kita. Penelitian yang dilakukan sederhana dan mudah. Daun sambiloto ditumbuk hingga halus lalu dicampur dengan air murni, setelah itu ditaruh pada tempat yang sudah mempunyai ukuran tersendiri. Lalu oleh mereka ditempatkan elektrokda positif dari seng dan negatif dari tembaga, maka mampu menghasilkan arus besar 2,5 volt dan dapat menghidupkan sebuah lampu.


Hasil coba para siswa ini ternyata mampu menjadi juara tiga lomba karya ilmiah siswa se Jawa Bali pada April 2011 yang berlangsung di Kabupaten Nganjuk, Jawa Timur. Inilah salah satu hasil kreatif para siswa terkait krisis sumber daya energi yang patut dibanggakan. Ketiga siswa tersebut saat ini terus berupaya menyempurnakan hasil penelitiannya karena akan diikutkan pada kompteisi serupa pada tingkat internasional.
